Fixed Income Research Team Description

The Fixed Income Research team is comprised of intellectually curious, collaborative professionals who formulate investment ideas for inclusion in PPM’s wide range of debt-focused client portfolios. As sector experts, analysts assess the credit quality of companies and industries through qualitative and quantitative analysis by following news, analyzing financials, and speaking to industry experts. Analysts then evaluate trading levels of these companies’ debt instruments to formulate investment recommendations, collaborating with the firm’s traders and portfolio managers to implement these views into portfolios.

Summary of Role

Lead all firm activities related to distressed investments, restructurings, defaults, bankruptcy and investments-related litigation.  Work across all asset classes and deal with all asset types, but primarily public and private fixed income.

Role Responsibilities
  • Represent PPM and its clients in distressed situations, seeking to maximize recoveries and preserve rights and remedies.
  • Provide strategic advice and case management for distressed situations, advising portfolio managers, research analysts and operations personnel as applicable.
  • Work side-by-side with portfolio managers and research analysts to understand the implications of noteworthy credit events and coercive corporate actions, including accessing intelligence and deal flow.
  • Serve on ad hoc, official and steering committees in both public and private company bankruptcies and restructurings.
  • Assist legal counsel in the management of distressed securities-related litigation.
  • Work on ad-hoc projects and deals, including investment analysis for private asset-based transactions and/or private placement transactions in coordination with research analysts and portfolio managers
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related field
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy, securities related litigation and class actions as they might pertain to client investments
  • Possess a substantial database of bankruptcy and litigation contacts and restructuring professionals upon which to draw intelligence and access deal flow
  • Successful track record of formulating and implementing bankruptcy and legal strategies
  • Significant knowledge of compliance and securities laws
  • Proven track record of cooperative conduct and fostering relationships when dealing both internally and externally
  • Must be comfortable working behind the scenes and expressing opinions through others
