Structured Finance Credit Team Description

The Structured Finance Credit team is comprised of intellectually curious, collaborative professionals who formulate investment ideas for inclusion in PPM’s wide range of debt-focused client portfolios. As structured sector experts, analysts assess the credit quality of transactions and asset classes through qualitative and quantitative analysis:  industry research, corporate credit analysis and due diligence, and asset cash flow analysis.  Team members will regularly meet with company management, industry experts, investment bankers and rating agencies as part of the due diligence process.  Members will evaluate trading levels of these companies’ debt instruments to formulate investment recommendations, collaborating with the firm’s traders and portfolio managers to evaluate relative value thoughts and recommend investments.  Monitoring the existing portfolio is an important part of the role.

Summary of Role

The Structured Finance Professional will be a member of the Structured Finance team.  The candidate is expected to have a broad knowledge of the structured finance industry and will be a mentor for junior team members.

Role Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate investment proposals of private/144a and public asset backed securities for purchase.  Responsible for all aspects of deal execution including sourcing, cash flow analysis, sponsor/manager analysis, investment recommendation and committee presentation, documentation and pricing rationale. Perform on site due diligence, meeting with issuer’s senior management team and reviewing operations.
  • Asset classes include: collateralized debt obligations, solar, timeshare, property assessed clean energy, single family rental, fiber, music royalties, data center, PDP and other esoteric asset classes.
  • Monitor asset backed portfolio, including ongoing review of asset performance, credit enhancement, credit analysis of servicers, to determine appropriateness of existing holdings in light of current deal status and market conditions. Formulate exit strategies and/or workouts as necessary.
  • Track industry and asset specific issues and maintain relationships with servicers, investment banks, and rating agencies.
  • Mentor and work with junior members of Structured Finance team.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Excel required.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments and work within deadlines.
  • Experience with an established organization, preferably in an institutional asset management buy-side firm.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferable in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous experience in the structured finance sector required.
