We are thrilled to share that Angie Karna, WIFM Advisory Council Member, has been appointed to Head of Wholesale Legal at Nomura.

WIFM sat down with Angie to learn more about this exciting news, and her insights on leadership, career growth, and opportunities for women in financial services:

WIFM: Can you tell us about your new role?

AK: I am the Head of Legal for Nomura’s Wholesale Division in the Americas, which includes responsibility for legal coverage for all Fixed Income, Equities and Investment Banking businesses.

WIFM: As a leader and advocate for women in financial services, what do you see as the biggest opportunities for women in the industry today? How can organizations better support their growth?

AK: The biggest opportunities for all people engaged in financial services, including women, come from areas of change in the overall industry. Organizations can better support all employees’ growth by fostering a culture of continuous learning and development, including by rewarding innovation and collaboration.

WIFM: What advice would you give to women aiming to rise into senior leadership roles?

AK: I would advise all employees aiming to rise into senior leadership roles to put their hands up for stretch assignments early and often in their careers, and to seize opportunities when they arise, which is frequently through serendipity. I also think it is important for women, in particular, to let their managers and their networks know that they wish to take on more leadership roles. In my experience, women often do not share their aspirations with people who can help those goals become reality.
