Empowering Women

Our Story

Where it All Began

The Birth of WIFM

In 2007, six derivative lawyers sat around a table, reflecting on the glaring absence of women in senior roles across the financial markets. They realized that to drive real change, they needed to come together, support one another, and elevate women in the industry. That conversation became the catalyst for what would eventually become Women in Financial Markets (WIFM).

What started with just six women has since grown into a powerful network of over 8,000 members, all dedicated to the same mission: to connect, elevate, and advance women in senior leadership roles across global financial markets. Today, our diverse membership represents women in every imaginable role across the financial services industry.

WIFM is blazing the trail for the next generation of women leaders.

Through powerful networks, mentorship, and opportunities for collaboration, WIFM provides the tools and support necessary to break through the industry’s glass ceilings. Whether it’s through high-level roundtables, exclusive events, or leadership programs, we’re creating a community where women in finance can thrive, influence, and lead with confidence.

From Barriers to Breakthroughs

The road isn’t easy—gender gaps in leadership, unconscious biases, and structural barriers still exist. But WIFM sees these challenges as catalysts for change. By providing career development resources and strategic connections, we equip women with the knowledge and influence to rise to the highest echelons of financial markets. We ensure that women aren’t just participating in the financial services industry but leading at the forefront.
